Standard or Restricted Operator Licence?

The type of Operator Licence required depends on the nature of the transport operation and how the business operates. Choosing the appropriate licence is an important part of setting up a compliant transport operation.

Standard Operator Licence

A Standard licence is generally required where the operator carries goods for hire or reward or carries goods in connection with its own business and falls within the circumstances requiring a Standard licence. Standard operators must meet additional requirements, including having access to a professionally competent Transport Manager where required.

A Restricted licence may be appropriate for businesses carrying their own goods in connection with their business, where the operation meets the relevant requirements for a Restricted licence.

Not sure which licence applies to your operation?
We can discuss your proposed operation and help you understand the requirements before you apply.

Making Changes to an Existing Operator Licence

Your Operator Licence needs to accurately reflect the operation you are running. Changes to your business, vehicles, operating centres or operating arrangements may require a licence variation or other action.

Adding Vehicles

Increasing the number of authorised vehicles or making changes to the vehicles operated under the licence.

Operating Centres

Changes involving existing operating centres or the addition of another operating centre.

Licence Details

Changes to relevant business or licence information where a variation or notification may be required.

Changes to the Operation

Guidance where changes to the way your transport operation operates may affect your Operator Licence requirements.

The requirements for a variation depend on the circumstances. We can discuss the proposed change and explain the process before you proceed.
